Ernest Edmonds - Communication Game / 2015

Pioneering computer artist Ernest Edmonds created a series of Communication Game artworks in the late-1960s and early-1970s. These electronic systems explored the notions of interaction and technology-mediated communication. Sean Clark was commissioned to help recreate one of these artworks using current technology, but in a style that would be in keeping with the original piece. The recreation uses Arduinos, switches and LED lights to reproduce the original functionality of the artwork and is housed in a custom case. It has since been exhibited in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and Beijing, China. Ernest talks about his early work in this video on YouTube.

Technology

Three Arduino Nanos are programmed to control LED lights in response to the action of switches. The responses are defined according to a logical truth table.
